Yasmar Remand Centre
Haberfield
Designed as a secure remand facility for boys, this centre contains kitchen and dining room , classrooms and clinic as well as staff offices and bedroom accommodation, all within a secure but domestic scaled environment. A central covered spine connects the various accommodation parts along its length. Replacing brick walls with glass block and the usual steel gates and bars with custom designed steel security grills and gates, was an attempt to visually soften some of the security layers around the facility.
